Since 2000, Club Musical Oriente Cubano exists as a reply from the East of Cuba to the West (Havana)-based Buena Vista Social Club. Caña, Tabaco y Ron (2002), Algo Ritmo (2008), Tres (2019) and Tiempo Fugaz (2024) have been released so far. This playlist celebates 25 years of Club Musical Oriente Cubano's music. Towards the end of my life's path, I fell asleep accidentally, and had a dream whose soundtrack was made up of a handful of songs that had been in their turn the soundtrack of my childhood, adolescence, early youth. These "western" songs urged me to revive them. To do so, I needed a little big help from my friends, and as they happen to be cuban musicians, after recording with them three albums of cuban traditional music, I asked them to experience the unusual, for once.

They took up the challenge quite enthusiastically. Nevertheless, I also wanted the album to sound "Cuban", somehow. Instead of turning the songs into sones, boleros, mambos, etc., we decided to maintain the original structures and rely exclusively on the typically Afro-Cuban percussion and on the Spanish language.

A few songs already had their Spanish versions, and we adapted the remaining ones.

The result of our efforts is this album entitled Tiempo Fugaz (Fleeting Time), which I hope you may enjoy as much as we enjoyed making it.
