June 2012
Interview by FUCHSIA

HYDROGYN released the album "Private Sessions" in Aprill, 2012. Fuchsia had a chance to interview them in June.

Fuchsia: We have no chance to see your shows here in Japan, and we can see you only in a video. Do you have a plan for a music video from the album “Private Sessions”?

Jeff: We hope so in the near future. Playing Japan is a goal of ours. We have sold a ton of CD’s to Japan through our site and other channels but have never had a proper record deal. They keep saying that we are not right for Japan there ahahahahaha. Just a matter of whatever but Japan is very important to us and we hope to get there soon.

Fuchsia: How about a plan for international tour in the near future?

Julie: That’s something we are currently looking in to. We would love to be back out on the road, and would love to come to Japan if everything works out. Touring is a love of ours for sure and we have beenin Europe many times but playing Japan would be the best.

Fuchsia: I heard you have released a DVD called “No Borders”. Tell us more about the DVD.

Jeff: Actually it is a SVCD. That is a CD comparable with DVD players that are readable in all regions of the world. We did that on our own and did it in that format so that it would be readable all over the world. We did not have enough funding at the time to be able to do a proper pressing for each region as that would add up to a ton of money. Now though the region status has [pretty much been done away with so it could be converted into the full DVD. It is a DVD of the band and behind the scenes stuff from the start to 2009. It has a live show and a lot of our music videos as well. Good release for the HYDROGYN fans.

Fuchsia: Do you have a band you are interested or you would like to play with in lately?

Julie: I think it would be cool to play with any well known band, just because of the exposure it would provide for us. Of course, each member has their own personal favorites we would like to tour with, but are pretty open to playing with just about anyone if it’s the right situation.

Fuchsia: What are you guys doing when you have no rehearsals?

HYDROGYN: We all lead really ordinary lives. We have family and friends that we spend time with. We have other projects we work on when not doing Hydrogyn. Jeff Westlake is a really good music producer and has his own studio, where he records other bands. So, when not touring or rehearsing for Hydrogyn, he is busy with that.

Fuchsia: Now I’d like to ask Julie. I think your voice has a good range. How long is the range of your voice?

Julie: I’m not really sure. I’ve been told I have a five octave range, but I just sing and it comes out…hahahhaha. I have a really lo range and a somewhat high range. I would guess it to be around 4 octaves or so.

Fuchsia: You wear various outfits on the stage. Sometimes you look wild and sexy, and another time, chic and cute. Who make the stage costume for you? I guess it depends on a song but which style is your favorite?

Julie: I actually do all my own stage clothes. I just find things I like here and there and piece items together. I sometimes laugh at myself when I look at pictures over the years, because there is no consistency to my image whether it be my hair or clothes. I think I have went in just about every direction.

Fuchsia: The last thing, would you like to tell something to your Japanese fans?

Julie: We just really appreciate the support of everyone. We have not had the opportunity to come play, and so we hope that some day in the near future, that will happen.
