Album: This Is What Happens
Artist: The Reign of Kindo

The Reign of Kindo's second full-length album, released in 2010.

Starting with the hand claps, the jazzy piano cuts in with a seven-beat rhythm in #1, "Thrill Of The Fall," and you will get goosebumps right away. The song develops in a truly thrilling manner, maintaining the vertical groove of the odd time signature while adding slow and rapid changes. Other songs such as #4 "Bullets In The Air," with its Latin drums and saxophone that create a hot and bitter atmosphere, show an aggressive side that was not noticeable in the previous album. The sound pressure suddenly drops on these songs as well, and the singing is wistful. The melodies sink in easily.

Although their beautiful melodies are impressive, the lyrical world depicted in the melodies has a unique shadow. In #4 above, the words are compared to bullets, depicting the unreasonableness that sometimes indiscriminately hurts people. The voice of the singer is both angry and lamenting. The final track, #13, "Psalm," is a song about not being able to admit goodbye and begging for a miracle. The piano and drums create a quietly unsettling soundscape that brings tears to the listener's eyes.

The song is jazz to the extreme, pop to the extreme, and beautiful to the extreme. And it is beautiful and dramatic to the end. Their music, as always, is suited to quiet rain.

For fans of what ?
The key words of this album are "piano," "beautiful," and "jazz rock. This new album is definitely more powerful, and we confidently recommend it to fans of both of their previous albums.
I also recommend this album to Mutemath fans in terms of the post-rock elements and the beautiful melodies of the songs.

I would like to recommend this work to the fans of Mutemath in terms of the post-rock elements and the beautiful melodies of the songs. ↓and more! (About the bonus track and the members of the Japanese version)
The bonus tracks on the Japanese version are two playful songs that are really a bonus.
The bonus track #14 "Needle & Thread (8bit Remix)" is a brilliant NES version of their debut EP, and it sounds like you are listening to the background music of Mega Man. On the other hand, #15 "Morning Cloud (Ringtone)" is a short, softly lingering song that takes a piece from the previous song. Speaking of which, it also has a fantasy finish that sounds like something you might hear in an RPG. Personally, I'm a big fan of this kind of thing ('A`)!

There seems to be no soundtrack of this album on youtube yet. So, here is one of the original bonus tracks for the Japanese version.
"Needle & Thread" (video below)
I love this song.

As mentioned in the liner notes, Kelly, who was in charge of piano, will be leaving the band after the release of this album. This is very unfortunate news, as he was the core of the band's sound. How will they change in the future?
