Bob Atea began in 2019 as an “escape project” between novelist Sabda Armandio and PS Jati, drummer of the screamo band Amukredam.
What started as just a playful distraction eventually transformed into a real band in 2023, when bassist Bagus Satria and guitarist/vocalist Ferio Johan joined in. And later Karu in 2024.
They call their style Post-Citypop-core—a soundtrack for the generation wandering big city at midnight, grabbing an energy drink at the convenience store, gaming until sunrise, and rewriting the endings of anime and worlds they don’t agree with.
“Our music is like a buffet,” they explain. “There’s emo, there’s VGM, there’s that rush you get from an old anime opening. There’s no formula—we just throw together whatever feels fun and honest to play.”
More than a band, Bob Atea is a coping mechanism. Their identity is shaped by graphic design, a love for kaiju films and mecha, and inside jokes only they fully get. Even their name comes from a fictional spiritual leader they invented—Robert “Bob” Atea.
Their sound is bound to resonate with listeners who grew up loving There Is A Light That Never Goes Out, COWPERS, eastern youth, Eve, and the ever-nostalgic L’Arc-en-Ciel.
