RAZIA

ARTIST USA World / Ethnic Music Acoustic Vocal Afrobeat / African

ABOUT SHOW | HIDE

The Road, Razia's 3rd Album has the mark of an artist coming into her own, where the beauty of the music is only amplified by the depth of personal exploration. Said a Malagasy-born New Yorker, has lived in Libreville/Gabon, Paris, London, Milan, Bali, Ibiza, working as a stylist, an actor and in fashion, until an encounter with the manager of the famous Malagasy band Njava in 2007 helped her find a deeper calling: raising awareness about environmental and social action through her unique, inspiring voice.

Razia sings mostly in Malagasy, but also in French and English, inspired by the rhythms, melodies and instruments from her childhood. Her acclaimed first album Zebu Nation released by Cumbancha in 2010 was the beginning of a long musical journey back to Madagascar. Since then Razia has toured and recorded worldwide. Akory, her second album, which means "what now?" was produced on four continents over four years and saw Said diving even more deeply into her Malagasy roots. The Road, Razia's third album is an introspection on a fragile time in her life and is dedicated to her grandmother, Tombozandry, who raised her and who passed away in the course of this period.
