First Japanese release from Mass Appeal, a US hip-hop label co-owned by Nas.
MIYACHI, a bilingual rapper who seamlessly fuses English and Japanese, has released his new album “SALARYMAN STRIKES BACK” from Mass Appeal Records. He released a powerful 10-song manifesto based on his experiences as a former office worker. MIYACHI, a multi-talented creator, is combining the characters from his popular YouTube channel KONBINI CONFESSIONS with his rap persona for the first time. Create a unified Sonic World.
Following “HERO,” which boldly challenged the status quo in the Japanese rap world, MIYACHI finally fulfills his mission to shake up the Japanese rap scene with this album, released on NAS’s iconic Hip-Hop label Mass Appeal Records.
The album, titled “SALARYMAN STRIKES BACK,” is an honest revolt against the boring and monotonous corporate life, social norms, and what people call “cool” with sharp lyrics laced with global influences. Furthermore, in “AI CHAN,” she depicts her romance with AI as a metaphor for human relationships, and in “ONLY,” she also reflects on her own love life.
MIYACHI, who grew up in New York and Japan, sublimates the struggles of his time as an office worker into songs that confront social pressure and the vanity of success. The overall tone of the album is set by the opening song “NANDEYANEN,” with painful lyrics and a somewhat comical, anime-like vocal performance. AK-69, a heavyweight in the Japanese hip-hop world, appears as a guest on the album’s highlight song “DO ME,” overwhelming the audience with his immense energy. Meanwhile, “UFO,” produced by Dubba-AA, the Grammy-winning artist and producer behind Kodak Black and NBA YoungBoy Never Broke Again, takes listeners on an interstellar journey with its otherworldly trap beat.
MIYACHI’s unique cultural perspective shines through from his popular YouTube series KONBINI CONFESSIONS, in which he plays a disillusioned office worker, to his exuberant performance at Boiler Room Hong Kong in May. His music serves as a bridge between Eastern and Western cultures, redefining global hip-hop with his authenticity and undying passion.
“The album ‘SALARYMAN STRIKES BACK’ symbolizes all underdogs who are trying desperately to live their own lives without being bound by society’s norms,” he says.
“This album is the soundtrack for them to rise up and spread their wings.”
