Now Ex is the musical pseudonym for East London based alt pop artist and filmmaker Nick Hampson. Nick’s films, the most recent of which was nominated for an Emmy award in 2021, have a lot in common with his music - they both create and explore parallel worlds that are one moment laced with painful euphoria, and the next flowing with an infectious lust for life. It’s cinematic pop that was built for the silver screen, and makes the listener the main character. Originally coming up in the Royal Opera as a child soloist, Nick launched alt pop outfit Now Ex during the pandemic and has accrued a global army of devoted fans across his first two EPs, whilst playing a series of packed out London shows along the way, including legendary venues like Omeara and the Camden Assembly. In June 2023, Now Ex made his European touring debut with a series of sold out 300 capacity shows, including Hamburg’s Hafenklang, and Berlin’s Badehaus. He will return for 4 more Germany shows in November 2023, and another 13 European dates in February 2024 which will be announced in late August 2023, with a special one-off intimate show at London’s St Pancras Old Church in December 2023 that is already sold out, 4 months ahead. Now Ex will also support ‘Girli’ at Gotobeat Festival in September 2023. Now Ex has had significant backing from playlisting and radio across his first two EPs, being featured on Spotify’s ‘Fresh Finds Indie’ playlist and ‘An Alternative Future’, and Nick has interviewed on multiple BBC radio shows, as well as RTE 1 in Ireland. Having been nominated for an Emmy award in 2021 for directing a social justice documentary, Now Ex is known for his stylised and ambitious music videos, alongside colour coded eras, all of which makes the visual identity of the project incredibly distinctive. He’s had major syncs with the BBC, most notably being the theme tune for their global hit series on Formula E racing, and recently Now Ex directed and made an entire pop score for the now infamous VICE documentary ‘The Instagram ‘Scammer’: Caroline Calloway’. Over time Nick plans to combine his film platform and his music in ambitious and truly novel ways.
