fferlys is Rob Fairley, a songwriter living in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. His writing is often introspective, but engaging a variety of sounds and genres in a coherent package. These days he is invested in pushing the limits of his home recording, establishing a small recording studio in the attic of his home in downtown Hamilton just around the corner from the famous Grant Avenue Studio. Rob got his start in songwriter circles and the independent music scene of the early naughts in Toronto and Brantford, his former band Stray Feathers being a regular fixture at The Silver Dollar Room and Clinton’s Tavern with notable performances at the Horseshoe Tavern and Gentlemen of the Road festival in Simcoe. He returned to songwriting and recording arts in 2020, starting slowly just piecing together fragments of his memories of the joy in sharing music and over the past few years building a growing body of work and working to extend his reach. In 2021 he was awarded a FACTOR grant for his first EP performing as Rob Fairley titled The Old Ways. Today he finds himself working alone much of the time, but no less dedicated, with a series of EP releases planned for 2025 culminating in a full-length album later in the year or early 2026.
