ABOUT SHOW | HIDE

If you were to ask any number of Christian music fans who the most influential and/or best-known bands are, the name Petra would no doubt be on every list. Rottweiler Records artist, John DeGroff, was a founding member of Petra. As the band's original bass guitarist, he played on the first two albums including the self-titled "Petra" (1974) and its follow up "Come And Join Us" (1977). After leaving Petra in 1978, DeGroff stayed active musically. He continued contributing to local music in Fort Wayne, Indiana as well as touring nationally with such artists as singer Troy Shondell and working with jazz guitarist Denny Jiosa.

DeGroff (bass, principal songwriter) has recorded with other Christian singers such as Darrell Sroufe and Mary Lafluer. His credits include but aren't limited to: Playing bass on Company's Comin' by gospel music group Old Fashion Faithful, jazz/fusion duo Cosmonaut Bob who released Return To Reality in 2002, and is part of The Gary Gerard Group who has released Ground Zero In 2004. DeGroff was approached by fellow ex-Petra members Greg Hough and Bill Glover to join them in the band, GHF, which released two albums, Honestly Live and God Has Forgiven Vol. 1. In 2015, DeGroff has two released "...demos and other moments..." In 2018, DeGroff released his debut solo album SALT under the moniker John DeGroff & Friends. While the Rottweiler Records releases are under the name "John DeGroff and Friends", SALT is the band name of the core group of musicians that have made SALT and SALT 2: Trophy Hunting For Unicorns possible. Expounding on DeGroff's archived songwriting, DeGroff's sophomore Rottweiler release entitled SALT 2: Trophy Hunting For Unicorns is a multi-genre composition of Progressive Rock, Jazz, Blues, and even a Rockabilly tune.

DeGroff once again recruited Petra alumni and mutli-grammy award winning artist, John Schlitt (Vocals). Schlitt has released several solo albums under his name and founded the Union Of Sinners And Saints with Billy Smiley (Whiteheart). Petra founding member, Greg Hough signed on to write and contribute guitar for "3 Nails" and "Conversation".

Curtis George (drums, percussion) met Degroff by joining the Gary Gerard Group in 2016. Since then, the two have a cultivated a creative relationship behind SALT. George began learning drums at a young age and formed bands thereafter with styles ranging from Punk, Indie, Death Metal, Jazz-Fusion, and Prog-Rock. George began classical training in 2009 and learned percussion compositions from the likes of Antonio Sanchez, Rod Morgenstein, and Neil Peart for competitions throughout the Mid-West. He has since toured the USA, continues to play for The Gary Gerard Group and recently joined Metal outfit Hailshot.

The aforementioned Rockabilly tune is written by Dan Leu (Guitar) and features vocals by Shawn Browning (Founder, Rottweiler Records). Leu is a childhood friend of DeGroff's and played in several bands together throughout their adolescent years. Leu went on to play and tour with the band Cartoon that was managed by the DMA agency out of Detroit, Michigan. He then played with The Hipwaiters, who released two album projects, Nearsighted Universe (1995) and Put The Fork Down (1998). He is also on DeGroff's "...demos and other moments..." album, as well as also on the first SALT project. He frequently plays acoustically at local outdoor shows and other venues in northern Ohio, USA.

John McCorkle (Piano, Keyboards) again brings his incredibly sophisticated musical talent to SALT. McCorkle has toured extensively over the years and has notably appeared with The Broke And Hungry Blues Band playing throughout the mid-west, USA. His playing and musical influence are found throughout both Rottweiler Records projects DeGroff has released. He contributed the exceptional fusion-jazz-influenced track entitled "Alone Again" to Trophy Hunting For Unicorns.

Trophy Hunting For Unicorns is produced by Tim Bushong, who is best known for the band Lovewar. Lovewar released the album Soak Your Brain on Word Records (1993) and a follow-up album simply titled Lovewar (2019) through Roxx Productions. Tim has worked extensively with John and Dino Elefante, who are best know for their work with Kansas and as producers of Petra.

Other musicians that helped make SALT possible are Kevin Kyle (Guitar) Garry Jones (harmonica), and Jack Harrell (Congos).
