SEVAD: born Steven Davis to Margaret Louise Davis in the year 1977, a 'Voice' was born, too. Blessed with God's given talent, passed down through his mother at birth, at a tender age Steven developed a genuine affinity for music. This passion grew into love by his adolescent years. It became the norm for him to hide away from home to attend regular sessions; just to find a place among other artists and musicians of the day. During this time, he took an immense liking to the sounds of the late, great, Garnet Silk, and would make every attempt to attend his shows. Steven mourned the passing of this icon. But it was these events that would later spark the emergence of SEVAD the artist.
Steven ‘SEVAD’ Davis began to embrace his passion and talent more seriously, and made the conscious decision to put aside the shyness and let his voice be heard. It only took a short time before SEVAD, with his strikingly captivating looks, gained a core following among the ladies from audiences wherever he would now venture. His melodic flow began to take form, and he was appointed lead singer of The Step by Step Band. SEVAD’s stint with the group saw him perform Island-wide at various stage shows, sessions and other cultural events. He even made appearances at Rebel Salute, one of Jamaica’s most popular Reggae festivals. Notoriety grew and spawned the release of SEVAD’s debut single It's Time. This record would bring about media interviews and further interest in him. At the time SEVAD was featured in a number of local newspaper articles.
In no less than a year, he created his own record label: Sevad Music House Records. This moved his musical vehicle into a higher gear. With an energized spirit, great work ethic, a productive environment, and new flavors and ideas, his debut album Everyday Is Like Valentine was on the way. In the near two-year period that followed the project was completed. Then, a music video was released for the single Addicted from the same album. It premiered on the Entertainment Report, one of Jamaica's most popular TV shows at the time. To this day, the track Addicted is still on heavy rotation worldwide, across the airwaves.
Fast-forward to 2020, and SEVAD has just released his latest album. Entitled Black Man’s Government, it showcases this exciting artist’s poetic lyrical ability and his talent for songwriting. The album is an ingenious mix of genres and styles, giving him the opportunity to display his vast range of influences and his talent for intricate composition. But more than that, it demonstrates SEVAD’s searingly conscious messages and philosophizing. And Black Man’s Government acts as a remarkable platform for his equally remarkable voice.
Today, both SEVAD and his music embody ‘Authenticity, Diversity, Flavor, Maturity, Relevance, Style, and Uniqueness’. All these can be attributed to his lifelong experiences. And all these make SEVAD a truly relatable and real force within the music industry.
