James Brown (born April 1st 1995) better known by his stage name as Don Quell, is a Jamaican reggae dancehall recording artist and song writer. James was delivered at the Savanna-la-mar Public Hospital to Sophia Allen (mother) and James Brown (father). His mother was inspired to name Don Quell as James Brown from his father to carry on his legacy. He grew up in Orange Bay and Glenbrooks Westmoreland. He attended Sir Clifford Campbell primary followed by Mountain Grace Junior High, then Negril All Age. Then he attended the Rucea¡Çs High School, and Green Island Training Centre.
He started doing music from a tender age, however, he started recording professional at the age of 18 in 2013. As for his nickname it was given to him from his brother. His original artist name was ¡ÇPuckey¡Ç but after using his well known slang Quell, the idea came about to change his name to Don Quell. Quell originally means to do something by force. His interpretation of this means striving for success and never giving up.
Don Quell singles such as ¡ÇClassick¡Ç, ¡ÇInside¡Ç, ¡ÇFight¡Ç and ¡ÇUp and Thankful¡Ç are just a few of his hit singles. He also did collaborations with popular dancehall artist such as Devin Di Dakta (Cross Road 2019) and Pamputtae (Dig it 2019). The artist is now signed to a label known as ¡ÇEven know dat record¡Ç but also works with other labels such as ¡ÇGI record¡Ç.
