Jean Koning is a self-proclaimed sinner-songwriter, musician, and record producer.

Koning began writing songs at 12, following the moment he was invited to provide additional vocals for the avant-garde free-jazz band The Children Of A Lesser God.
At 14, after being introduced to the music of Velvet Underground and Captain Beefheart, he formed a split off of that band, called !JP (pronounced as Ilunga Pi), which focused more on the punk side of their repertoire. When !JP proved to be more successful in the Dutch underground music scene, Koning quit singing in The Children Of A Lesser God, and focused solely on his band.
Koning wanted, and slowly gained, artistic independence in song writing and album production, and has produced all his studio albums since !JPs Everybody Else's Boy (2000). Eventually, !JP disbanded in 2008, and Koning started his long-awaited solo career in 2010.

Koning's eclectic and experimental musical style, unconventional lyrics, and literary themes are known to employ varied influences and meld disparate genres. Even in his earliest works he wove together diverse influences, drawing on classical music, punk rock, and a wide range of ethnic and blues sources. This would continue throughout his career, changing style, genre, and mood with every produced album. His fear of repeating himself has led to melodramatic, emotional surrealism in his music, which defies easy categorisation. Elements of Koning's lyrics employ historical or literary references, as well as current social issues, and have been known to touch on obscure or esoteric subject matter. He is not afraid to tackle sensitive and taboo subjects in his work.
His music continues to differ from any pop norm. It remains a structure of accessible obscurity.
